Getting to Hayle:

  • Driving

The driving distance from London Heathrow to Hayle is 284 miles and takes about 6 hours.  Take the M4, M5 and A30.

  • Train

The train is a great way to come to Hayle.  You can catch the Penzance train at Paddington if you are already in London, or take a bus to Reading from Heathrow and catch the train there.  The journey time is about 5 hours and the section from Exeter to Penzance is very picturesque.  The end of the line is Penzance but you should get off the stop before which is St. Erth.  Although there is a station in Hayle, few of the inter-city trains now stop there.

  • Air

There is an airport at Newquay which is a 40 minute drive from Hayle.  Currently there are flights from Gatwick but none from Heathrow.  Times are awkward and advance booking is essential.

Directions to the house from the A30:

Take the A30 until you come down a long hill and arrive at a roundabout with 5 exits and glared upon by a Macdonald's Burger Emporium. The A30 continues to Penzance but you should eschew this option and take the Hayle exit passing Pickfords on your right. Go through a double mini roundabout and then look for the garage on your left in about 1/4 mile with a turning to your right signposted to Phillack and the beaches and, ominously, the Bucket of Blood. Follow this road as it winds through Phillack and then makes a 90 degree turn towards the sea. You will arrive at the end of the real road as you pass a shop on the left (closed in the off season- October to Easter). Shortly thereafter you must make another sharp turn, this time to the left. You could go straight ahead but the road gets even smaller and you will soon drop off the cliff.

The road you are on continues for a few hundred metres and you will see a pub on the right (The Bluff) with a largish car park. Keep the Bluff on your right and continue to a fork, go right and then almost immediately right again and stop before you knock down our gate.

(The shop is open in the summer and closed in the winter)

The gate is electrically controlled.  Park outside the gate and press the bell button.  We'll open the gate from the house.
